There are times when you may feel as if your plan to lose weight is impossible to achieve. You may do great the first couple of weeks, but slowly start losing your motivation. When you see people have success, you start to wonder what they did to reach their goals, and what it took to get there. What do they do to achieve this?
Identifying your most important weight loss goals is the first step in your weight loss program. What do you want your weight loss to do for you? Are you looking to be a smaller size in clothing? Is there a certain number you would like to see when you step onto a scale? Is it as simple to you as assuring good health for your body?
Record your weekly progress. It’s a good idea to keep track of this in a weekly diary so you can compare from week to week. Don’t forget to log your food consumption in the same diary. A great way to see how well your diet is going is to make a food journal of everything you eat throughout the day. Even the act of having a schedule will make you stick to your plan.
When you feel like you are starving, you are more likely to grab the first thing that comes along, even if it happens to be bad for you. Make sure you avoid this problem by bringing healthy foods along with you. It is far better to bring a bagged lunch wherever you are going, than to end up in a fast food restaurant. Packing your own lunch lets you maintain control over the calories you consume and keeps you from having to face the temptations prevalent when dining out. It is much cheaper than eating out so you will find that you aren’t only losing weight, but you are helping your wallet!
The two staples of any weight loss plan are diet and exercise. Find a workout you find enjoyable, and perform your workout at 3-4 days each week. If exercising is getting tedious, incorporate your favorite activities into your workout routine. For those times when you get together with friends, plan a neighborhood stroll. Take a formal dance class if you enjoy dancing. If you prefer to go on hikes, check out trails you haven’t been to before as a change of pace.
When you have a kitchen full of tasty but unhealthy foods, it’s hard to stop yourself from eating them. However, following the same logic, we can determine that when the refrigerator is full of healthy, nutritious snacks, then that is what you will reach for. Make sure your pantry has tons of healthy food options like fruits, vegetables, and nuts. You must learn self control; stop buying the junk foods that you are addicted to. You may go through some junk food withdrawals but it is well worth it in the long run. Eliminating these junk foods from your pantry and replacing them with healthy choices will help you stop making unhealthy choices.
Invite a friend to exercise with you. It is easier to skip a day for a flimsy reason when we have no one else to answer to but ourselves. If you have a partner, you will be more motivated to complete your workout, even if you are starting to tire. By encouraging one another, you’ll increase both of your chances for success.
